A notification has been issued for land acquisition for the next 70 kilometres. However, in a letter dated September 26, 2019, the Railway Authority informed that the project had been suspended, resulting in a halt to further actions related to the construction of the flyovers.
The Railways has asked the state government to bear 50% of the cost of the Sabari project.
While the project was originally started entirely with railway funds, the Kerala government informed the central government on July 1, 2021 that it was willing to bear 50% of the estimated cost of Rs 2,815 crore through KIFB.
