Eleven companies have submitted bids for civil construction work of a new civil enclave at Bihta Air Force Station near Patna, Bihar, after the Airports Authority of India (AAI) opened technical bids on Friday.
Bihta airport was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs of the Government of India in August 2024 with an estimated total cost of Rs.1413 crore. This new civilian enclave at the Indian Air Force (IAF) base (view on Google Maps) will serve as Patna’s second airport and is located approximately 18 km, as the crow flies, from Jayprakash Narayan International Airport.
The Bihta Airport project involves the construction of a new integrated terminal and service building with a 6-lane elevated road connecting to the national highway NH-922.
The new 2-storey passenger terminal will have a built-up area of 34,346 m2. It will be equipped with 6 aerobridges, 64 check-in counters, 6 conveyor belts and will be able to handle 3,000 passengers during peak hours (PHP).
The project also involves the construction of an apron with 10 parking spaces suitable for A321/B737/A320 type aircraft and two connecting taxiways. The IAF base’s runway will also be extended from 8,000 feet to 12,000 feet as part of a separate contract.
AAI had floated tenders for its civil construction contract in September 2024 at a Rs. Estimate of 665.85 crores and completion deadline of 730 days (2 years).
